The Automation Research Team (https://unit.aist.go.jp/icps/icps-am/en/) at the Industrial CPS Research Center of AIST Tokyo Waterfront Center has an opening for a postdoctoral researcher to work on the project called: Self-Improving AI for seamless human-guided robot learning, over a 2 year period (contract is made per fiscal year, last one ending on march 2026).
This position will be focus on the development of a continuous learning framework for manipulation tasks using human feedback.
Required skills:
PhD degree in robotics-related field
A good track record of publications.
Excellent spoken and written English language skills
Preferred skills:
Experience with robotic manipulation, reinforcement learning.
Experience with ROS, docker, Isaac Sim, VR
Basic Japanese (would be a plus)
Starting Date:
The starting date is negotiable, beginning as early as May 1st, 2024 and no later than July 2024. Applications will be evaluated starting on February 15, 2024 and will continue to be accepted and reviewed until the position is filled. Only successful candidates will be notified and asked to proceed to the interview stage.
Salary:
- From 2500 to 2700 yen / hour depending on the experience.
- Income tax and social insurance premium are deducted from the salary.

Working hours:
- From Monday to Friday, 7 hours and 45 minutes per day (preferably from 9:00 to 17:45 but can be negotiated, flex time also possible, lunch break of 1 hour).
- There is a paid leave system, a commuting allowance system, and social insurance according to AIST's regulations.
Holidays:
- Saturday, Sunday, designated holidays at the end of the year and national holidays.
